98% LESS PARTICULATE MATTER THAN IN 1999

Air quality has once again become a global environmental and health concern – and rightly so. After all, what could be more important than air that’s fit to breathe?

Major cities around the world are really suffering with air pollution and the role of diesel engines is under scrutiny. Even though non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) – like our machines – makes a relatively small contribution to overall levels of diesel engine emissions, we take our responsibility extremely seriously.

OUR FIRST FULLY ELECTRIC MACHINES WILL BE ON SITE WITH CUSTOMERS BY THE END OF 2019

Since 1999, our engines have evolved from Stage I emissions compliance through to Stage IV, with great results. A JCB backhoe loader made in 2018 now produces 98% less particulate matter (PM) and 97% less nitrogen oxides (NOx) than one produced in 1999, which is a huge step forward. We’re now developing our Stage V engine, which will deliver further reduced PM and Particle Number (PN) emissions, making it our cleanest diesel engine ever.

We’ve now launched our first fully electric machine but crucially we continue to pursue cleaner diesel engine technology at the same time. Although we can now use electric technology for mini and compact machines, diesel engines are still needed in large machines carrying out heavy-duty tasks.
