On a planet of finite resources, avoiding waste is essential to a sustainable future. We’ve worked hard over a number of years to find innovative waste solutions, and we’re pleased to say we have lots of success stories to inspire our continued waste reduction drive.
Just take landfill: none of our waste has gone direct to landfill in the UK since 2013, and we’re now working to phase out the last pockets of landfill in our overseas operations. And we’re equally as proud of the recycling rate we’ve achieved in the UK, which currently stands at just over 90%*.
90% OF OUR PACKAGING AND GENERAL WASTE IS RECYCLED
We now need to turn our attention to reducing the amount of waste that’s produced in the first place. We already set targets on steel plate utilisation to avoid waste of this carbon-intensive material. And we’ve got great examples of how applying best practice to our painting operations can reduce unnecessary waste – by reducing overspray, for example.
However, packaging waste remains a real challenge for us and has increased significantly per machine produced since 2013. We’re now closely examining our waste streams so we can develop an effective long term approach to reducing waste across our supply chain and processes.
